Moving off and Stopping2017-05-21T20:33:46+00:00

For the video Below this is a written version of what you need to do when you move off and come to a stop at the side of the road.

So the first this we need to do is find the biting point (by putting into first gear with the clutch down and then lifting the clutch until it engages with the gears). We have now found the biting point and are ready to move so we need then to check our left door mirror then centre mirror and our right door mirror and over our right hand should to our blind spot to see if we need to indicate or if anything is stopping us from moving.

So we will now assume it is clear to move off we can now release the handbrake, lifting up pressing the button then lowering the hand break down. The car will then start to move forward, so while we are steering slightly to the right we can lift our clutch up and take the left foot off the clutch and rest it to the side and also we can the press the accelerator down a little to pick a little speed up.

We are now moving along and we need to pull up at the side of the road so the first thing we need to do is find a safe spot to pull up at the side of the road. Once we have found this we check our centre and left door mirror, indicate if anyone will benefit from it. Then we need to steer slightly to our left looking for the reference point I will show you on your lesson. Once you have found the reference point, you can then straighten the car take your right foot off the accelerator then with your right foot on the brake start gently to brake slowing you down, once your car starts to judder you can then put your clutch down and brake more, bringing you to a stop.

You then can apply the handbrake and put the gear into neutral then you can take your feet off the pedals and relax. You have then driven the car for the first time and you are then on your journey to be able to drive.
